What this site collects, and what it does not · last updated 4 September 2026
The short version. This is a set of static pages. There are no accounts, no cookies, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking pixels and no third-party scripts of any kind. Nothing you do here is recorded beyond the ordinary web-server log your browser generates by asking for a page. If you email me, I have your email.

What is collected automatically

Server logs

The site is hosted on Firebase Hosting, a Google service. Like every web server, it records a line for each request: the IP address that asked, the page requested, the time, the HTTP status, and the browser’s user-agent string. This happens at the infrastructure level and is not something the site chooses to do or can switch off.

These logs exist to serve the site and to keep it up. I do not analyse them, build profiles from them, or connect them to anything else, and they are not sold or shared. Google’s handling of the data is governed by the Firebase privacy policy and the Google privacy policy.

Because Google operates globally, this data may be processed outside Canada.

What is not collected

No cookies, no storage

The site sets no cookies. It writes nothing to local storage or session storage. The light/dark toggle on each page changes an attribute in the page you are looking at and is forgotten the moment you close the tab — that is why it does not remember your choice.

No analytics, no third parties

There is no Google Analytics, no tag manager, no heatmap, no embedded fonts, no social widgets and no advertising network. Every page is a single self-contained file. Nothing loads from another domain, so no other company learns that you visited.

Outbound links to DFO, the Province and other sources are ordinary links. Following one takes you to that site, under its own privacy policy.

Email

If you write to the address on the contact page, that message reaches my ordinary personal mailbox and I keep it as long as it is useful — typically until whatever it is about is resolved. I use it to reply to you and, if you have sent a correction, to fix the page. I do not add anyone to a mailing list, because there is no mailing list. I do not share the address or the message with anyone.

If this site ever carries ads or affiliate links

It does not today. If that changes, this page gets updated before anything goes live, and the change will be visible in the date at the top. What would change:

Nothing on this page is a promise that ads will never appear. It is a promise that you will be able to tell, from this page, whether they have.

Your rights

This site is run by an individual in British Columbia, Canada, and follows Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA). Since the site holds no personal information about you beyond a server log entry you cannot be identified from in practice, there is very little to request — but if you have emailed me and want that correspondence deleted, ask and it will be. If you are in the EU or UK, the same applies under the GDPR.

Changes

Any material change to this policy will move the date at the top of this page. There is no archive of previous versions; if you need to know what it said before, ask.
